The Punjab Vigilance Bureau on Tuesday arrested an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) in Amritsar taking bribe. Accused ASI Ajayb Singh is in charge of Khai police post. He is working under Gharinda police station.

A Vigilance spokesman said that a person from village Ghumanpura had lodged a complaint. According to the complainant, a police case was registered against his cousin. Investigating officer ASI Ajayab Singh had demanded Rs 50,000 to help the court to present the record and get bail.

Caught red handed taking the first installment

After preliminary investigation, the Vigilance team laid a trap. In the presence of two government witnesses, ASI was caught red handed taking the first installment of 25 thousand rupees. A case has been registered against the accused under the Prevention of Corruption Act at Vigilance police station.

Vigilance spokesperson said that the accused will be produced in court tomorrow. Further investigation of the case is going on. This action has been taken under the zero tolerance policy of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann.
