There was a political upheaval in Nepal after the announcement of his resignation by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli amid large-scale anti-corruption protests in Kathmandu. The situation worsened when hundreds of protesters attacked their official office and private residence. The incident occurred a day after killing more than 20 people in violent clashes over a controversial social media ban. The crisis deepened after several cabinet ministers accused the government of ignoring public grievances. Oli appealed for peace a few hours before his resignation and urged the protesters to talk. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired the meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security Affairs to assess the ongoing developments in the neighboring country.

Following the resignation of Nepal’s PM, top officials of the army and other security agencies have made a joint appeal. He has appealed to the people to take restraint and find a solution to the crisis through negotiations. He said, ‘Since the Prime Minister’s resignation has already been accepted by the President, we all appeal to all to be restrained and not to let life and property be harmed in this difficult situation.

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has resigned from the post amid heavy protests on the second day. The protesters attacked several government buildings and set fire to the houses of several prominent leaders along with Parliament. A day earlier, 19 people died in violence. The movement began under the leadership of students under the banner of Jane ji against government ban on social media turned into a big campaign.
