The Delhi High Court on Wednesday sought a status report on the appeal of Shahid alias Cat, one of the five convicts in the 2010 Dhaula Kuan gangrape case. The case is related to gang -raping a BPO employee from Moti Bagh on 23 November 2010 by a Mewati gang in a mini truck. He was thrown into Mangolpuri area after the gang rape. The five accused were convicted in 2014. The Delhi High Court retained his sentence in 2018. Justice Girish Kathpalia issued a notice to the prosecution and sought a status report on the appeal in two weeks. The High Court has also sought a nominal role from the jail authorities concerned.

He approached the High Court to extend the same period. The High Court also visited his daughter’s pictures and medical documents. The petitioner has to surrender tomorrow at the end of the holiday. If he applies, it will take a long time.
The High Court ordered on 11 June, spent about 13 years in jail without any exemption and due to specific circumstances of the case, this application is accepted. The High Court said that the petitioner is exempted from surrender till the next date. It is clarified that this order is given in an unfortunate position. It should not be considered an example. The Dwarka court convicted Shamshad alias Khutkan, Usman alias Kale, Iqbal alias Cat, Shahid alias Cat and Kamaruddin alias Kamru on 14 October 2014.
