The nomination of RJD candidate Shweta Suman from Kaimur Mohania assembly constituency has been cancelled. The Election Commission canceled her nomination because Suman had shown her native place in Chandauli district of Uttar Pradesh during the 2020 Bihar elections, but in the 2025 elections she showed her residence in Bihar. BJP had filed a complaint in this regard with the Election Commission and today his nomination was cancelled.

This comes just a day after the opposition suffered a major setback in East Champaran, where the Sugauli seat had become a potentially easy seat for the NDA after two key nominations from the grand alliance camp were rejected. RJD’s sitting MLA from Sugauli, Shashi Bhushan Singh, had filed his nomination as a Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) candidate. However, his nomination papers were rejected due to technical glitches. Since VIP is not a registered regional party, Singh was supposed to bring 10 proposers for his nomination, but as per RJD rules he brought only one proposer. The Election Commission found flaws in his nomination papers and canceled his candidature.

Adding to the opposition’s woes, RJD rebel Om Prakash Chaudhary’s nomination was also canceled after investigation revealed that several pages of his nomination paper were left blank, a clear indication of organizational lapses within the grand alliance. The last date for filing nomination papers for the first phase of voting ended on October 17, while the last date for filing nominations for the second phase ended on Monday. Voting for the 243-member Bihar Assembly will be held in two phases on November 6 and November 11, while counting of votes will take place on November 14.
