Mansa: Several decisions were taken in the Punjab Cabinet meeting in Jalandhar, one of which was to set up a power plant on acquired land at Govindpura in Mansa district. Cabinet has approved it for solar and renewable energy. But farmers’ organizations have opposed it. A huge protest was raised under the leadership of BKU Ekta Sidhupura. In fact, in 2010, the Badal government had acquired the land of Gobindpura, Sirsiwala, Jalvera, Breta and Dayalpura to a private company Puna Power for setting up a thermal plant. The government had promised to give employment to the affected farmers and laborers. But till now this land is lying vacant and no thermal plant has been built and no employment has been given to the people.

Kisan Union warning

Bharatiya Kisan Union (Ekta) Sidhupur has opposed the solar plant announced by Chief Minister Hon. He said that the promise made to the local people is unacceptable. If the government sticks to its statement then the struggle will be fought with the people. Tarsem Singh, Sohan Singh and villagers were present among those protesting in Gobindpura today.
