Significantly, amidst absconding fundamentalist preacher Amritpal Singh, the Punjab Police today found an abandoned car in Jalandhar district, from which a rifle and several dozen cartridges were recovered. Police recovered the weapons and said it was likely that the black car was part of Amritpal’s convoy on Saturday. He told that the same car was seen in a video a day earlier.
Today on the matter, the police said that a rifle, 57 cartridges, a sword and a registration number plate were found from the car. Jalandhar Rural’s Senior Superintendent of Police Swarnadeep Singh said the car was found abandoned in Salema village in Jalandhar’s Shahkot. Talking to reporters at the spot, Singh said, “We had come to know that an abandoned vehicle was found in Salema village. The key of the vehicle was also lying there. A personal walkie talkie, a rifle of .315 bore and 57 cartridges have been recovered.
The Punjab government on Saturday launched a major crackdown against Amritpal and arrested 78 members of an organization led by him, officials said. He told that Amritpal’s convoy was stopped in Jalandhar district, but he escaped by dodging the police.
