US President Donald Trump and his top advisor are preparing to visit South Korea for a meeting of Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) business ministers in late October this year, where he can meet Chinese President Xi Jinping, CNN quoted the Trump administration officials. US administration officials said that there has been a serious discussion about the bilateral meeting during APEC, but no concrete plans have been made so far.
The summit is scheduled to be held in the city of Gyongju between late October and early November. The summit is considered to be an important opportunity for Trump to meet President Xi Jinping.
Trump could meet Chinese President Xi Jinping in South Korea next month?
According to CNN report, three officials of the Trump administration told CNN that the US President and his top advisors are preparing for the meeting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Business Ministers.
According to CNN report, the summit in Gyongju between late October and early November is considered to be an important opportunity for Trump to meet Chinese leader Xi Jinping. Quoting the officials, it said that there has been a serious discussion on bilateral meeting on the other side of APEC, but no concrete plans have been made so far. CNN reported that in a phone call last month, Xi Jinping invited Trump and his wife to come to China, and the US President also agreed to it, although no date has been decided yet.
According to CNN, although the details are being fixed right now, it is not clear whether the President will add other stops to his visit. Officials said that the administration is also watching the visit as an opportunity for the President to earn additional economic investment in the US.
A White House official told CNN, “The visit to South Korea is being discussed, which will focus on economic cooperation.” The official said other goals include focusing on discussion on trade, defense and civil nuclear cooperation. Trump’s visit may also bring him to a meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un once again, although Kim will join or not, it is still a question. CNN said that officials say that more attention is being paid to organizing a possible meeting with Xi Jinping.
During the visit of South Korean President Lee J Muung last week, he invited Trump to attend the APEC summit and suggested that the event could provide the US President an opportunity to meet Kim, as the sources familiar with the talks told CNN. Addressing the first journalists during the day, Trump told Lee that he was keen to meet Kim.
Regarding the North Korean leader, Trump claimed, “I will do it, and we will talk. He would like to meet me. We are eager to meet him, and we will improve the relationship.” Thus, Donald Trump’s expected visit to South Korea is taking place at a time when their relationship with both Xi Jinping and Kim is tense.
Turban in Washington over SCO
Earlier this month, where there was a panic in Washington over the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit held in Tianjin, where Xi Jinping hosted Kim Jong Un, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while Trump immediately criticized these meetings. As soon as the parade began, Trump wrote on social media, “This festival day is fantastic and permanent for President Xi and Chinese wonderful people. Please wishes my heartfelt greetings to Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong Un, because you are conspiring against the United States.”
Trump shared a picture of Xi, Putin and Modi
On Friday, Trump shared a picture of Xi, Putin and Modi and wrote: “It seems that we have lost India and Russia to the deepest and darkness at the hands of China. God should do their future tall and prosperous together!” However, Trump expressed optimism towards India on Friday (US local time). Describing the Indo-US relations as a “very special relationship”, US President Donald Trump said that he and Prime Minister Narendra Modi would always be friends and insisted that “there is nothing to worry”.
Positive response received from New Delhi
The move received positive response in New Delhi as Prime Minister Modi on Saturday reacted warmly to US President Donald Trump’s confirmation of Indo-US relations, saying he “deepened and fully supports them”. A possible meeting with their Chinese counterpart will be at a time when Washington and Beijing are repeatedly entangled with Trump’s tariffs.
