On Saturday, on the last day of the ten -day Ganpati festival, more than 25,000 policemen will be deployed across Mumbai to ensure smooth and safe immersion. On the last day of the 10-day Ganpati festival in Mumbai, people flocked on the streets with dhol-tasha and gulal for immersion of the idols of Lord Ganesha and blowing gulal for the immersion of idols of Lord Ganesha. Officials said that more than 18,000 Ganpati statues were immersed in various reservoirs in Mumbai till 9 pm. Statues were seen sitting on road dividers, buildings’ roofs, balconies, trees and pillars to get a glimpse during the grand closing ceremony while leading to the city beaches and other reservoirs.

Earlier, Rangoli was made on the roads during the day. At the same time, there was light to moderate rain in some parts of the city since morning. According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), 18,186 Ganpati statues were included till 9 pm, including 1,058 public divisions (local community group) and 258 goddess statues, immersed in artificial reservoirs and artificial ponds built by the city body.

The journey in Lalbagh, famous for the prestigious Ganpati mandals in Central Mumbai, began with Tejukaya, Ganesh Gali and many other mandal statues. A BMC official said, “No untoward incident has been reported during the immersion process.” Thousands of people flocked to farewell to the dear deity on the streets and other major travel routes of Lalbagh, dancing and singing, playing drums and blowing gulal. Seva Sadan Mandal used a statue of aristocratic Marathi for its procession, as Marathi has been declared classical this year.
Bappa’s departure gathered in despite rain
Major processions from Lalbagh, Parel, Kalachowki and other areas of Central Mumbai started moving towards the beaches after 1:30 pm. Anant Chaturdashi in Pune began with the immersion of the first Manacha (prestigious and venerable) idol of Ganesh Mandal. More than 21,000 policemen were deployed in the city to maintain law and order during immersion.

An official said the city police was on alert after a threatening message, claiming that 14 terrorists had entered the city with 400 kg of RDX in 34 vehicles. Later, the police arrested a 50 -year -old man from Noida in Uttar Pradesh for allegedly sending a threatening message. The official said the crime branch arrested the accused Ashwini Kumar Supra from his residence in Noida within 24 hours of receiving a threatening message.
