The Chinese court sentenced 11 members of a notorious family running a scam center in Myanmar. Dozens of Ming family members were convicted of being involved in criminal activities, many of which were sentenced to long prison. The Ming family worked for one of the four clans in Myanmar, who lived in the city of remote robeing near the Chinese border and made it a hub of gambling, drugs and scam centers.

Myanmar eventually arrested several members of these families and handed them over to Chinese officials in 2023. According to a report by Chinese government broadcaster CCTV, a total of 39 members of the Ming family were sentenced in the eastern city of Venzhou on Monday. In addition to the 11 members who got the death penalty, five others were given the death penalty with a two -year sentence; 11 was sentenced to life imprisonment.

The court found that since 2015, the Ming family and other criminal groups have been involved in criminal activities including telecom cheating, illegal casinos, drug trafficking and prostitution. According to the court, their gambling and scam activities have grossed over 10 billion yuan ($ 1.4 billion; £ 1 billion). Other people had earlier estimated that casinos of the four families were doing several billion dollars of business every year.
