After the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, the Central Government decided to restructure the National Security Advisory Board i.e. NSAB. Alok Joshi, who was the Chief of the former RAW i.e. Research and Analysis Wing, has been made the chairman of NSAB.

Alok Joshi read from JNU

Alok Joshi hails from Lucknow and has done post graduation in Political Science from Jawaharlal Nehru University in Delhi. He then joined the Haryana cadre of the Indian Police Service in 1976.

In 2005, Alok Joshi was made the joint director of the Intelligence Bureau. In 2010, he was made the Special Secretary of Raw. There was a competition between Amitabh Mathur and Alok Joshi, the IPS of the 1977 Tripura cadre, to become the Chief of Raw. Both were trying for this post and both were also qualified for it. The Prime Minister’s Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (India) chose Alok Joshi as the Chief of Raw, not Mathur.

NSAB was formed in 1998

NSAB was formed in December 1998. The NSAB is a special group that includes people outside the government. Its task is to analyze the National Security Council, solutions for the council issues and suggest policy.
