Allahabad High Court’s decision on ABBAS Ansari, conviction canceled, membership restored

Mau’s MP/MLA Court on May 31, 2025 convicted him in a case related to inflammatory speeches given during the 2022 assembly elections and sentenced him to two years imprisonment and a fine of Rs 3,000. On the basis of this sentence, his MLA post was abolished on 1 June 2025.

Abbas Ansari, son of mafia -turned -leader Mukhtar Ansari and former MLA, has got a big relief from the Allahabad High Court. Accepting Ansari’s petition, the High Court has canceled the two -year jail sentence recited by the MP/MLA Special Court in Mau. With this order, now his MLA status will be restored and there will be no by -election in Mau Sadar assembly seat. When Mau’s District Judge rejected his appeal on 5 July, Abbas challenged the order and moved to the High Court. After hearing the arguments of both sides, the High Court reserved its verdict on 30 July. Advocate Upendra Upadhyay represented Abbas Ansari in the matter, while Advocate General Ajay Kumar Mishra and Additional Advocate General MC Chaturvedi argued on behalf of the Uttar Pradesh government and strongly opposed any relief. With today’s decision, Abbas Ansari’s assembly membership was rectified, which is an important political development in Mau.
