In his first detailed comment after the June 12 disaster, Air India chairman N Chandrasekaran gave information about the ongoing operations, talking to a private news organization. He confirmed Air India’s unbreakable commitment for safety, transparency and long -term support for families affected by the tragedy.
Increased security check on Boeing 787 fleet
Chandrasekaran confirmed that the flight disruption directly linked to the fleet-wide security audit initiated after the AI-171 accident, including the Boeing 787 Dreamliner. He said, “After June 12, DGCA made it mandatory for all 787. We have completed investigation of 24 out of 33 aircraft,” he said that these inspections are of precautionary nature.
He also clarified that Air India’s Dreamliner is not maintained by Turkish Technic, as was estimated, but by AIESL and SIA Engineering – both are reputed servicing partners.
AI-171 aircraft has no technical problem
The investigation of the accident is going on, but Chandrasekaran insisted that the maintenance record of AI-171 was clean. He said, “There was no red flag or last security concern. The right engine was changed in March 2025, and the left engine was to be investigated in December itself.” He reiterated that until the official conclusions are released by the Bureau of the Bureau of Investigation and DGCA, it would be too early to speculate on human mistake or technical fault.
Aircrafts enhance restrictions and weather operating problems
There are recent international aircraft restrictions that further enhance delays – especially on Iran – due to which many long distance flights have to change. This has increased the flight duration and operational complexity. Additionally, more flights have been canceled in some parts of India due to bad weather.

Refund and passenger assistance
Air India has assured the affected passengers for complete refund or free reconstruction. The airline said in a statement, “Our teams are working round the clock to assist in alternative arrangements. We are sorry for the inconvenience.” Passengers are advised to check the flight status on Air India website or contact the customer service through helpline number 011 69329333 or 011 69329999.
