The Major Medical Institute of Chhattisgarh, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Raipur, is struggling with staffing crisis. According to official data, 35 doctors have resigned in the last three years. About 40% of the posts of faculty in the institute are vacant, increasing concerns over healthcare distribution in Central India. Doctors leaving the institute have described their family transfer and better opportunities in the private sector as the main reason for their resignation, although no one was willing to speak on camera. State Health Minister Shyam Bihari Jaiswal accepted the crisis and said that the government is taking steps to maintain doctors, but also pointed to widespread challenges. He said that many NHM employees across the state are on strike with 10 demands, four of which have already been accepted, including 27% increment, cashless treatment of Rs 5 lakh, arbitrary dismissal safety and an annual 30 -day -long 30 -day -day holiday.

Jaiswal said that a committee has been formed to consider the remaining demands like transfer policy, compassionate appointment and salary grade amendment, which is expected to report in three months. Former Health Minister and Congress leader TS Singhdev said that this migration has occurred due to many reasons, including progress in career, high salary in private hospitals and transfer due to the appointment of spouse in other states. He also emphasized the need to remove this negative perception that Chhattisgarh is a Naxal -affected state, which discourages young doctors from going to AIIMS Raipur. Health workers have warned that if the immediate measures are not taken, the shortage of staff may increase further, affecting the institute’s ability to provide quality care to millions of patients in Central India.
