Indian filmmakers have recently shown a growing interest in mythology, and have presented their own interpretations of the country’s epic tales. Movies like Adipurush and Kalki 2898 AD faced criticism for their unique take on traditional narratives, and now Jio Hotstar’s ‘Mahabharat: Ek Dharam Yudh’, which is made entirely using artificial intelligence (AI), is also facing similar criticism.
Nowadays, Artificial Intelligence (AI) has become an integral part of our daily lives, from creating images and captions for social media to even being used in film production. Recently, many shows and movies have been created or are in production with the help of AI.
The recently released television series Mahabharat – Ek Dharam Yudh has been a topic of discussion ever since the telecast of its first episode. The show has faced trolling due to an AI mistake, as some scenes of Jio Hotstar’s AI-generated Mahabharata featured modern elements, which shocked the audience. Sharp-eyed viewers pointed out a major mistake, which was the modern furniture and ancient Hastinapura bedroom setting.
The series has faced criticism since the trailer was launched, although the makers said their aim was to present the epic in an innovative visual form for modern audiences.
So far, two episodes have been released, and many viewers have expressed mixed reactions on social media. While some praised the creators’ effort to experiment with AI storytelling, others pointed out several inaccuracies in the depiction of the era.One user said that the bedside desk seen in one scene looked “very modern” and not hand-made, and argued that such furniture did not exist in the Mahabharata period.
Modern mistake in ancient Hastinapur
For those who are not aware, let us tell you that the first episode was released on October 25, 2025 and the second episode was aired on November 1, 2025. In a scene from the first episode, Goddess Ganga is shown sitting in a palace room with a small child in her lap. Although much of the room, including the bed and curtains, appeared to be in keeping with the ancient period, a modern-looking bedside table immediately caught the viewer’s attention.
Social media reaction to AI mistake
This scene from Mahabharata created by AI is going viral on social media, people are sharing screenshots and making fun of this mistake. A viewer shared a screenshot of the episode on Platform
