Who is Lee J-Mel?
Lee, 61, has become a prominent person in South Korean politics in recent years. His political journey has caught people’s attention from avoiding a deadly knife last year to go viral to climb the national assembly walls during martial law. Before running for the presidency, Lee served as the Mayor of Seongam in Southern Seoul for eight years, followed by the Governor of Gyonggi province for three years. Last Presidential contender Lee lost to the People’s Power Party (PPP) candidate Yun Suk Yol by a minor margin in the 2022 election. Despite the defeat, he led the opposition and remained a powerful voice in national politics.
Attempt to murder
Lee’s life story from working as a child laborer to becoming a prominent political person – has inspired many people. However, their progressive and often populist policies have also been criticized for the purpose of dealing with economic inequality, corruption and gender salary difference. Lee’s attempt to kill Lee during Busan’s visit in 2024 saved his life, where he was stabbed with a seven -inch knife on his neck. He was taken to Seoul National University Hospital for emergency treatment. The attacker allegedly approached him under the guise of seeking autographs.
