With the implementation of AFSPA, the army and paramilitary forces can take anyone into custody for questioning anytime in these areas.
The central government has extended the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) for six months in Manipur, Nagaland and parts of Arunachal Pradesh for six months. The Ministry of Home Affairs issued this information by issuing a notification.
According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, the decision was taken after reviewing law and order due to the ongoing violence in Manipur. Except for the jurisdiction of 13 police stations of Manipur, AFSPA will remain in force from 1 April 2025 to the next six months.
Earlier in September 2024, AFSPA was implemented for six months in 6 districts of Manipur. It ended on 31 March this year. But due to the ongoing violence in the state, this decision has now been taken.
AFSPA implemented due to disturbance in some areas of Nagaland and Arunachal According to the notification, the districts of Dimapur, NIVEND, Chumoukedima, Mon, Kifire, Nokalak, Fake and Peren have been declared a turbulent region. Apart from this, some police station areas of Kohima, Mokokchung, Longga, Vokha and Junheboto districts have also been included. Here too, AFSPA will remain in force from 1 April 2025 for the next six months.
At the same time, AFSPA has been extended for six months in areas of 3 police stations along with Tirup, Changlang and Longing districts of Arunachal Pradesh.

Right to arrest without warrant in AFSPA AFSPA is applied only in turbulent areas. In these places, security forces can arrest anyone without warrant. Force use can also be used in many cases. The law was passed on 11 September 1958 for the convenience of security forces in the Northeast. AFSPA was implemented here in 1990 due to increasing terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir in 1989. The central government also decides what the turbulent areas will be.
More than 250 people killed in ethnic violence More than 250 people have been killed and thousands of people have become homeless in the ethnic violence released since May 2023.
