The Taliban on Sunday released a US citizen from a jail in Afghanistan. The Taliban said a few weeks ago that the efforts to normalize the relations between Afghanistan and the United States have reached an agreement with American messengers over the exchange of prisoners.
Taliban Foreign Ministry Deputy Spokesperson Zia Ahmed Takal identified American citizen as Amir Amiri. He, however, did not say when, why and where Amiri was detained.
An official who is aware of this release said on the condition of anonymity that Amiri was in custody in Afghanistan since December 2024 and was going back to America.
