According to the clarification, the agreement emphasizes a complete ceasefire, mutual respect, refraining from attacks on each other’s security forces, civilians and facilities, resolution of all matters through dialogue and non-incitement of attacks against each other.” The ministry concluded, “Any statement beyond these terms is invalid. This clarification comes after the Afghan spokesperson on Sunday announced that a comprehensive ceasefire has been mutually agreed upon between Pakistan and Afghanistan in Qatar, which has been formalized through a bilateral agreement.
Sharing details in several posts on Twitter, the spokesperson thanked Qatar and Turkey for their “important role” in facilitating the negotiations that led to the agreement. Under the terms of the agreement, it was decided that neither country would take hostile action against the other, nor support groups carrying out attacks against the Government of Pakistan. Both sides also committed to refrain from targeting security forces, civilians or critical infrastructure.

The spokesperson said that for effective implementation and review of bilateral claims, a mechanism will be established in the future in the mediation of the arbitral countries. The ceasefire agreement comes after a statement by Qatar on Saturday (local time) which announced that Pakistan and Afghanistan have agreed to an “immediate ceasefire” after fierce border clashes, and further talks are planned to ensure its “sustainability”. Qatar’s Foreign Ministry stressed that both sides will also hold further meetings in the coming days to ensure the sustainability and implementation of the ceasefire and promote long-term peace and stability between the two neighboring countries.
