Actor Prakash Raj appeared on Wednesday at the office of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in Bashirbagh, Hyderabad after receiving summons in a case related to promoting online betting game. Prakash Raj is known for his negative roles in films like ‘Wanted’ and ‘Singham’ and has worked in more than 300 films in his career. Earlier this year, the Telangana police registered an FIR against 25 famous celebrities and influential people, including popular celebrities like Rana Daggubati, Prakash Raj, Vijay Devarakonda and Manchu Lakshmi, who were accused of promoting illegal betting and gambling apps through their social media platforms, as stated by ANI.

Prakash Raj appeared in front of ED for questioning
Actor ED, who identified Telugu, Kannada and other South Indian films, appeared for questioning at the zonal office at ED. Apart from Prakash Raj in this case, ED has also issued summons to actors Rana Daggubati and Vijay Devarkonda and actress Laxmi Maanu.
Whose name included in online betting case
The investigating agency first asked Rana Daggubati (40) to appear at the zonal office here on 23 July, Raj (60) on 30 July, Devarakonda (36) on August 6 and Lakshmi (47) on August 13. However, the ED has given a new date of August 11 to appear to actor Daggubati as he did not appear on July 23 and requested to postpone the summons. According to ED sources, these artists allegedly “promoted” the online betting app involved in acquiring “illegal” funds.

The possibility of recording the statements of actors
During the appearance, the agency is expected to record the statements of the actors under the provisions of the Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The Enforcement Directorate has registered the case against these actors and many other celebrities and social media influencers taking cognizance of the police elements of five states. ED sources said that these people are suspected of “promoting” online betting apps like ‘Jungle Rummi’, ‘Jeetwin’, ‘Lotus 365’.
Sources said that these platforms are accused of earning a “illegal” amount of crores of rupees through illegal betting and gambling. He had said that some of these “well-known” celebrities have earlier made a statement that they did not have complete information about the actual operation of these apps and claimed that they were not associated with these platforms for any wrong or illegal activity like betting.
