The Ministry of Defense said on Wednesday that a medium -distance ballistic missile ‘Agni 5’ has been successfully tested. The test was conducted from the integrated test range at Chandipur, Odisha. The Ministry of Defense said in a statement that this launch fulfilled all operations and technical standards. This was done under the aegis of the strategic force command. Agni-5 is a long distance, nuclear-capable ballistic missile developed by India’s Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO). It is the most advanced missile of the fire chain, a family of surface -to -surface ballistic missiles. Medium -distance ballistic missile ‘Agni 5’ is designed with modern navigation, guidance, warheads and engine technologies, which can increase its firepower and accuracy.

Key things to know about Agni-5
Agni-5 is a land-based atomic MIRV-competent missile developed by the India’s Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO), a medium-range ballistic missile.
The missile is designed for nuclear use and its firepower exceeds 5,000 kilometers. In June 2025, it was reported that DRDO is working on making Agni-5, which would increase its firepower to 7,500 km.
Agni-5 medium-range ballistic missile is capable of firing three warheads simultaneously.
Other new versions of Agni-5, currently under development, will also focus on adding bunker-bombing of bomb technology to missiles.
