Bureau report : On the night of November 9, there was a news from Bathinda that Jasvir Singh, a member of the Anti-Drug Committee, was killed by smugglers. But now there is a new twist in it. The police have given a clean chit to the drug smugglers who claimed to have been arrested on the basis of suspicion. The police suspect that there is another reason behind Jasveer’s death. It is also being suspected that some members of the committee may be involved in the death of Jasveer. However, the police are still investigating the matter deeply. Jasveer’s brother Jagsir says that his brother was afraid of his son’s drug addiction, that’s why he became a member of the drug eradication committee.
42-year-old Jasveer was a member of the anti-drug committee of village Sidhana in Bathinda, which has about 60 members. The police have said that Jasveer died due to head injury. The committee member suspected drug traffickers behind it, but according to the police, the story is different. Jasvir’s brother Jagsir said that his brother is divorced and lives in the village with his minor son Tajvir. On the night of September 9, he left his son with me. Brother Jagsir said we were walking at night when this incident happened at 8:50.
The members of the committee informed the police on Saturday that Jasveer was killed by two persons on a motorcycle. After which two persons Nirmal and Jatinder who were laborers from Dod village of Faridkot district were detained. The members of the anti-drug committee of Sidhana village had claimed that Nirmal and Jatinder Singh were stopped by the anti-drug committee at the first gate of the village but they did not stop and entered the village. The committee members said that they alerted their colleagues and when they tried to stop the suspects, Jasveer died.
CCTV raised suspicion
The police said that CCTV footage has been found from the incident site which is also going viral on social media, in which 2 persons on a bike have passed by the members of the committee. In this footage, three members including Jasveer are seen trying to attack Chaldi Bait. Under this, the police is now investigating the role of the committee members in this murder case. Police sources also said that Jatinder and Nirmal had come to visit a friend in the village. Police Captain Mohit Aggarwal said that after investigation, it has been found that Jitinder and Nirmal were not drug smugglers and this incident has nothing to do with drugs. Mohit said that the role of the current committee members at the incident site is being investigated. Jatinder and Nirmal have not been released by the police at present. On the other hand, according to BBC news, a police officer on condition of anonymity revealed that Jasveer was killed by a fellow committee member who later misled the villagers and the police.
