Around 10 people were burnt due to gunpowder blast in a house in Ludhiana. Four to five children playing outside were also injured. The explosion caused a fire inside, burning everything inside to ashes. Hearing the explosion, the people of the neighborhood came out of their houses.
A police investigation revealed that the children were firing firecrackers outside the house. Sparks from the fire traveled to the gunpowder stored inside, causing the accident. The owner of the house Usman Khan used to make effigies of Ravana, for this he kept gunpowder store in the house.
On receiving information, the fire brigade reached the spot and brought the situation under control. Neighbors admitted the injured to the hospital. At that time three people including two to three children were present in the house.
The accident took place in the house of a man named Usman Khan in Indira Colony near Cheema Chowk in Ludhiana. Neighbors say that while firing firecrackers, a spark went off inside Usman’s house, which caused an explosion in the crackers inside. Clothes and household items got burnt in the explosion. There were no valuables in the house at the time.

Eyewitnesses say that Usman’s three children were present in the house at the time of the accident. As soon as the explosion occurred, all three ran out of the house. After this, the people living nearby admitted him to the hospital. No one else was present in the house at the time.
Two children living in the neighborhood were also burnt due to the explosion of firecrackers. Neighbor Usha Devi says her son was on the top floor of the house. He also got burnt in the accident. He has been hospitalized. Four-five other people standing outside the house were also burnt.
