In Meerut district, a criminal carrying a reward of Rs 50,000 got injured after being shot in a police encounter by Daurala police station. A police officer said that illegal pistol, cartridges and a motorcycle without number have been recovered from the possession of the miscreant.
City Superintendent of Police Ayush Vikram Singh said on Saturday that Daurala police station and SWAT team were jointly investigating near the Kali River bridge on Friday night. During this time, a suspicious youth was seen coming at high speed on a motorcycle.
When the police signaled him to stop, he tried to run away by turning the bike and opened fire on the police team. The police retaliated in self-defense, in which one bullet hit the miscreant’s left leg.
The injured criminal was arrested on the spot and sent to the district hospital for treatment. According to the police, the injured criminal has been identified as Muzammil (25), son of Shakeel, resident of Ahmed Nagar, Police Station Lisadi Gate, Meerut. An illegal .32 bore pistol, two shells, one cartridge and an unnumbered Splendor motorcycle, whose chassis number was found to be scratched, have been recovered from his possession. City Superintendent of Police said that this action has been taken as part of the campaign being run against criminals.
