The picture is of Chinese President Xi Jinping. China calls Arunachal Pradesh a South Tibet and its name Janganan.

China has changed the names of 30 places in the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh. Its information has also been released on its official website Global Times. The names of these places are placed in Mandarin (Chinese language).

China has also started its propaganda war regarding Arunachal. Indian Foreign Ministry spokesman Randhir Jaiswal said- Name Badali is that this China’s actions are foolish, it will not make any difference. China has shown creativity in changing the name, but Arunachal is a unbroken part of India.

China has been changing the names of its cities, villages, rivers etc. in an attempt to raise its claim in Arunachal Pradesh. For this, he gives the names of Chinese, Tibetan and Pinayin, but whenever India’s status is increasing internationally, this action of China comes to the fore at the same time.

The last time India had held a meeting in Arunachal at the time of the G-20 summit, China had announced to change some names in the region. Earlier in 2017, when the Dalai Lama came to Arunachal, he still acted to change the name.

The names of 20 places were changed in 2024 also

China had changed the names of 30 places by calling Arunachal Pradesh its part. It was informed by the Civil Affairs Ministry of China. According to Hong Kong Media House South China Morning Post, 11 of these were residential areas, 12 mountains, 4 rivers, a pond and a mountains coming out of the mountains.

These names were released in Chinese, Tibetan and Roman. China changed the names of 11 places in Arunachal Pradesh in its map in April 2023. Earlier in 2021, China had changed the names of 15 places and 6 places in 2017.

What is China’s claim behind changing the name…

China has never recognized Arunachal Pradesh as the state of India. He describes Arunachal as part of ‘Southern Tibet’. It is alleged that India has captured its Tibetan area and made it Arunachal Pradesh. Why China changes the names of the areas of Arunachal can be gauged from the statement of a researcher there.

In 2015, Chinese Academy of Social Science researcher Zhang Yongpan had told the Global Times, ‘The places which have been changed have been for several hundred years. It is absolutely justified by China to change the name of these places. In the olden times, the areas of Janganan (name given to Arunachal in China) were named after the central or local governments.

Apart from this, the names of places according to the ethnic communities of the area like Tibetan, Lahoba, Momba also changed the names of places. When India illegally occupied Gengainum, the government there also changed the names of places in illegal ways. Zhang also said that only China should have the right to change the names of the areas of Arunachal.

Will the names really change?

The answer is- no. Actually, there are rules and process fixed for this. If a country has to change the name of a place, then it has to inform UN Global Geographic Information Management in advance.

Subsequently, the UN’s geographic experts visit the area. During this time the proposed name is examined. Local people are interacted. When the facts are correct, the name changing is approved and it is included in the record.

Why does China consider Arunachal Pradesh so important?

Arunachal Pradesh is the largest state in the Northeast. It shares its limits with Tibet in North and North West, Bhutan in West and Myanmar in East. Arunachal Pradesh is called the security shield of the Northeast.

China’s claim is all over Arunachal, but its life is stuck on Tawang district. Tawang is in the North-West of Arunachal, where Bhutan and Tibet have boundaries.
