After the meeting, Pakistani Ambassador totikhar Ahmed addressed reporters in UN.
There was a meeting between India and Pakistan in a closed room late Monday night at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). However, after this meeting, UNSC did not issue any official statement and no resolution was passed.
However, after the meeting, the Pakistani Ambassador to the UN Iftikhar Ahmed said that Pakistan had requested the meeting to reduce the tension arising in South Asia. He said that his motive was fulfilled.
After Pakistan’s appeal, meeting in closed room
The meeting was not held in the main room of the Security Council but in the ‘Consultation Room’. There is a confidential conversation in this room. Pakistan, a temporary member of UNSC, appealed for a conversation in a closed room for the meeting.
Representatives of 15 countries were involved in the meeting. The conversation lasted for about one and a half hours. The Security Council has not issued any official statement after the meeting. After coming out of the meeting, a Russian diplomat said that we expect stress to decrease.
Representatives of 15 member countries of the Security Council are available in this room for non-formal dialogue. It has been designed for such conversation only.
Pakistan said- India gave inflammatory statements, which increases tension
Pakistan’s Ambassador to UN Asim Iftikhar Ahmed addressed the press after the meeting. He claimed that the discussion was successful in fulfilling most of Pakistan’s motives. Along with this, he said that Pakistan is in favor of peace and is always ready for talks.
Iftikhar said that many members of the Security Council agreed that all the issues should be resolved peacefully. It also includes the issue of Kashmir. He said that peace in the area is possible only by negotiations and the ban of international law.
Iftikhar alleged that India took ‘unilateral and illegal’ steps on 23 April. Along with this, military gathering and inflammatory statements were made. This reached the dangerous level of stress. Iftikhar said that Pakistan does not want conflict, but is fully prepared to protect its sovereignty and regional integrity if needed. “
The issue of postponing Indus River Agreement also arose
Iftikhar rejected India’s allegation in which Pakistan was held responsible for the Pahalgam terror attack. He said that all members of Pakistan and Security Council have condemned the attack.
Iftikhar also took the decision of India to unilaterally suspend the Indus Water Treaty in the meeting seriously. He said that the treaty was made in the mediation of the World Bank and remained intact even during 3 wars. The Pakistani messenger said, “Water is life, it should not be used as a weapon.
Former permanent representative of India Syed Akbaruddin told the news agency that no ‘concrete results’ should be expected from this meeting. He said that Pakistan is trying to ‘create perceptions’ only by using this platform, which India will give proper answer.
Un Chief said- military solution will not solve
United Nations General Secretary Antonio Guterres has appealed to India-Pakistan to exercise maximum restraint.
A few hours before this meeting held in a closed room, UN Secretary -General Antonio Guterres expressed concern over the increasing tension between India and Pakistan. He has appealed to both countries to exercise maximum restraint.
Guterres said in a statement- “The tension between India and Pakistan is at its peak. I respect the governments and citizens of both countries and are grateful to the contribution of both in the UN Peace Mission. In such a situation, I am sad to see that their mutual relations have reached this dangerous turn.”
