Prisoner committed suicide in Faridkot Modern Jail: Stand in bathroom, 10 years sentence in drug smuggling case – Faridkot News

A prisoner in Faridkot’s Central Modern Jail in Punjab committed suicide by hanging himself. The accused was jailed in the case of drug smuggling. He was mentally disturbed. On being taken to the hospital, doctors declared him dead.

According to the information, the deceased was identified as Major Singh (29), a resident of Ghoniwala, village of Faridkot. He was facing a sentence of 10 years in the case of drug smuggling. The jail administration kept the body of the prisoner at Guru Gobind Singh Medical College Hospital for post -mortem and started further action.

Court sentenced to 10 years

According to the information, the police station Sadar Faridkot police arrested on 23 June 2023 in the case of drug smuggling and in this case recently the District Court of Faridkot sentenced him to 10 years. Due to this sentence, he was lodged in Faridkot’s Central Modern Jail and was mentally disturbed these days.

Hanged in the bathroom of the barrack

After waking up on Sunday morning, Major Singh went to his barrack bathroom and there he put a noose with the grill with the help of clothes. When one of his companions went to the bathroom, he made a noise after seeing Major hanging. The jail staff immediately rushed him to the jail hospital but the doctor declared him dead.

Investigation being conducted by CJM

In this case, Jail Superintendent Iqbal Singh Dhaliwal said that the family of the deceased prisoner has been informed in this case. A post -mortem will be conducted from the board of doctors under the supervision of the Judicial Magistrate from the Medical College Hospital on Monday. He informed that a judicial inquiry is also being done by the CJM in this case.
