India’s 63 thousand crore deal from France is the biggest defense deal ever.
India is scheduled to sign the deal of 26 Rafale Marine aircraft with France on Monday. The deal will be signed between the defense ministers of the two countries. Under the deal, India will buy 22 single seater aircraft and 4 double seater aircraft from France.
These aircraft will be equipped with the ability to bomb atomic bombs. According to reports, this deal with France is being done for around Rs 63,000 crore. This is India’s biggest deal with France in terms of weapons procurement.
The purchase of aircraft was approved in the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 23 April. The meeting was called after the terrorist attack in Pahalgam.

Rafael Marine will be posted on INS Vikrant
India will deploy Rafale Marine aircraft on INS Vikrant. The aircraft manufacturer Dassao Aviation has made several changes in these aircraft according to India’s need. This includes features such as anti -ship strike, ability to launch nuclear weapons and record flights for 10 hours. Apart from this, the company will also give India the necessary tools of arms system, spare parts and aircraft.
According to reports, delivery of these aircraft will start in 2028-29 and all aircraft will reach India by 2031-32.

India has purchased 36 Rafale from France
Prior to Rafael Marine, India has also purchased 36 Rafale Jets for Air Force from France. All the aircraft of this deal in 2016 reached India in 2022. They are operated from Ambala and Hashinara Airbase of Air Force. The deal was done for Rs 58,000 crore. The features of the Rafale Marine aircraft are advanced by the Rafale aircraft of the Air Force.

Why India is buying Rafael Marine
- The Indian Air Force currently has a MiG-29 aircraft. These aircraft are stationed on INS Vikramaditya. In the past, India is buying Rafale Marine aircraft due to increasing demand for their maintenance and limited availability.
- The Navy stated in 2022 that Vikrant was designed for MiG-29, but is looking for a better deck-based fighter plane instead.
- Rafael Marine’s advanced radar technology, ability to carry more weapons, better sensors make it better than MiG-29 aircraft.
- India’s Air Force already has Rafale aircraft. In such a situation, there will not be much problem in training for its equipment and maintenance.
- The Indian Navy had planned to take 57 fighter jets to increase its capacity. For this, a trial of Rafael Marine of France and Boeing-18 of America were also held in Goa. In 2022, India demanded to extend its proposal time limit from the US and France. Only France was ready for this, after which India left the option to buy Rafale Marines.
- The deal is also an initiative to strengthen relations between India and France.
