Legendary actors Manoj Kumar and Raj Kapoor were both very close friends. Recently, Manoj Kumar’s son Kunal Goswami remembered the film Mera Naam Joker. He said that his father had proposed to Raj Kapoor that he would edit the second part of the film.
My name was more than four hours of Joker and the film was released with two intervals. Manoj Kumar also played a small character in this film.
In a conversation with Vicky Lalwani, Kunal Goswami said that the film Mera Naam Joker was as much as Raj Kapoor, as much as his father Manoj Kumar was close to the heart. He said that however, the film flopped, due to which it became quite special for all who were associated with it.
When Kunal was asked if Manoj Kumar had directed any part of the film, he told that the entire film was directed by Raj Kapoor. However, there was a conversation between Manoj and Raj regarding the editing of the film.
Kunal said, ‘There was some conversation between Raj Saheb and Dad. Dad told him that you let me edit the second part of the film, so that we can change the angle of the film a little. But I do not know whether this happened or not. Only this discussion was only about editing, not on direction. However, why would Dad direct this film. Raj Saheb himself was a great director.
At the same time, in an old interview with Mumbai Mirror, Manoj Kumar revealed that he had written some lines for his character in my name Joker. He said, ‘I wrote the first story of this three stories of film again. But I did not do this for name, fame or money. I took up my journey and hotel expenses and refused to take any credit as a writer. My name Joker was a tribute to Karmayogi Raj Kapoor for me.

The film Mera Naam Mera Mera Mera Mera was Joker Raj Kapoor’s dream project. To make the film, Raj Kapoor pledged all the jewelry of wife Krishna and took heavy debt. The film was one of the longest films in India, with two interval. The film was such a big flop that Raj Kapoor drowned in heavy debt. Raj Kapoor had to make a Bobby film to emerge from the loss. When there was no money to take the elder actor, he cast son Rishi Kapoor.
