The ordinance was approved by the cabinet on 15 April by the cabinet headed by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu.

Andhra Pradesh on Thursday issued an ordinance to give reservation within Scheduled Castes (SC) reservation. A total of 59 SC castes get 15% reservation in the state. Last year, the Supreme Court allowed states to give quota in SC and Scheduled Tribes (ST) quota.

In the ordinance of Andhra Pradesh, SC castes have been divided into three groups for government jobs and reservation in educational institutions. In this, 12 castes like Chandala, Paki, Rail, Dome have 1% reservation with Group-I, Chamar, Madiga, Sindhola, Matangi, with 6.5% reservation in Group-II and castes like Mala, Adhra, Panchama have been kept in Group-III with 7.5% reservation.

In December last year, the Andhra Pradesh government appointed retired IAS Rajiv Ranjan Mishra as a member commission to quota in SC quota. The commission had reported on the basis of the 2011 census, which was sent to the Center.

Telangana announced 42% reservation to OBC On March 17, 2025, CM Revanth Reddy of Telangana announced to increase the reservation of Other Backward Classes (OBC) in the state from 23% to 42%. If this is implemented, the reservation limit in the state will be 62%. This will be more than the 50% reservation limit fixed from the Supreme Court.

Telangana CM had said in the assembly- We will also take necessary legal help to increase OBC reservation 42%. We will not sit calm until 42% reservation for backward classes is obtained.
