The state’s most influential Vokkaliga and Veerashaiva-Lingayat community have questioned the Siddaramaiah government in the dock, questioning this survey.

The caste census report, leaked in Karnataka, has increased political tension. The Karnataka Backward Classes Commission has prepared the Social, Economic and Educational Survey 2015 report. It is to be introduced in the Siddaramaiah cabinet on 17 April. Controversy has started in the Congress itself.

The state’s most influential Vokkaliga and Veerashaiva-Lingayat community have questioned the Siddaramaiah government in the dock, questioning this survey. The Commission had said that it has made this report by surveying 5.98 crore people out of 6.35 crore population of the state.

The population of the Veerashaiva-Lingayat community in Karnataka has been 18% to 22%. 9 former CMs of the state lived from this community, but in the leaked report they have been described as 11%. Their population is estimated at 66.35 lakhs. They are placed in class category 3-B along with other Lingayat sub-castes and communities.

The Vokkaliga population was stated to be 10.29% (61.58 lakh), while the old Mysore region has a population of up to 16%. 7 former CMs have been from this community. The difference between the two major communities in this report is less than 1%. The 224-member assembly of the state has 50 MLAs from Veerashaiva-Lingayat and more than 40 MLAs from Vokkaliga.

Please tell that this survey was conducted by Siddaramaiah in 2015, but due to pressure from Vokkaliga and Lingayat communities, they were not able to release its reports.

Commission recommended to increase the total existing reservation from 50% to 73.5%

OBC has said the highest 70% population in the leaked report. The existing reservation is recommended to increase from 32% to 51%. There have been 5 CMs including Siddaramaiah from this class.

Muslims are 18.08%, which was 12.6% in 2015. Recommendation to increase reservation from 4% to 8%. The Commission has recommended the total existing reservation from 50% to 73.5%. The reservation limit of EWS is only 10%.

The largest community is scheduled castes, which have a population of 1.1 crore. They have 108 sub-castes. Scheduled Castes together are 18.2% of the state’s population or about 1.09 crore and scheduled tribes are 7.1% or 43.81 lakhs. Both of them get 24.1% reservation. There is no reservation for Brahmins, Arya Vaishya and Jain community. Their population is 29.74 lakhs (4.9%).

Allegations- Reservation not given in the right proportion

Those who question the report say that it does not have a related ratio in the total population of Vokkaliga and Lingayat, but for these quota has been proposed in various categories. Under Category III (A), Vokkaliga and two other major communities have been kept, which have a total population of 73 lakhs and should give 7% reservation. If you add the rest of the sub -castes, then they become one crore. Similarly, Veerashaiva-Lingayat and 5 other communities have been placed under Category III (B). The total population of which is 81.3 lakh and the report recommends 8% quota. While mixing their sub -castes, the figure is more than 1 crore.

Industry Minister and Lingayat leader MB Patil alleged that there was a huge discrepancy between the ground reality and the conclusions of the survey. How can it be that the population of Lingayats decreases. There are about 1 crore Lingayat, including many sub -castes. Reports have been made by ignoring them. Siddaramaiah has dismissed the allegations.
