The Payment Council of India (PCI) and the industry are working together to bring a secure card with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) as there is no longer a need to memorize the 16-digit card for payment when shopping online.
“We are working with the RBI to come up with a solution to introduce a secure card so that it can be adopted by the online industry and customers do not have to remember the 16-digit card when making online payments,” PCI said on Thursday.
The council said a solution is being worked out in collaboration with the RBI, which will ensure that customers do not have to enter 16 card numbers when making online payments. Payment through this solution will be completely secure and subject to the RBI’s action plan. Customers will get this facility till January 2022.
