The Unified Payments Interface, the UPI service, remained down for about three hours across the country. The highest payment failure report was made from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm on Saturday morning. There were problems in paying till around 3:00 pm. This is the third time in the last 20 days when there was a problem in transaction.
According to the platform down detector, which describes the real time status of the website and online services, about 81% of the people who were facing problems faced the problem. 17% of people had difficulties in transferring funds and purchasing about 2%.
NPCI said- working to fix
The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) said, ‘Right now the intermittent technical issue is facing, due to which there is a problem in UPI transactions. We are working to solve this problem and will keep you updated. Sorry for the inconvenience caused.’

The most problem was reported at 1:00 pm
The problem started at around 11:30 am. Then about 900 people reported this platform. At around 1:00 pm, the highest number of people reported the problem. The problem started to improve from 2:30 pm.

UPI service down three times in 20 days
- 26 March- The UPI service was down for about two and a half hours. Then people had difficulties in transferring the amount from apps like Google Pay, PhonePe and Paytm. During this period, UPI and Net Banking Services of more than 10 banks were also affected. Users were also unable to do login access in app and net banking.
- 2 April- Due to closing of FY 2025, there was a problem in UPI and mobile banking services of many banks of the country on this day. During this period, about 5000 users had filed a report of SBI’s service down only.
NCPI operates UPI
RTGS and NEFT payment system operations in India are with RBI. The National Payment Corporation of India (NPCI) operates systems like IMPS, Rupay, UPI. The government had a zero-charge framework mandator for UPI transactions from 1 January 2020.
How upi works
For UPI service, you have to prepare a virtual payment address. After this it has to link to the bank account. After this, there is no need to remember your bank account number, bank name or IFSC code etc. The payment bus processes the payment request according to your mobile number.
If you have its UPI ID (e-mail ID, mobile number or Aadhaar number), then you can easily send money through your smartphone. You can make not only money but also utility bill payment, online shopping and shopping with unified payment interface system.
