Adhir Ranjan’s sharp taunt on PM, not the opposition, PM Modi himself is the real ‘playwright’

West Bengal Congress leader and former party president Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury on Monday reacted sharply to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s dramatic remarks against the opposition during the winter session of Parliament. Responding to the Prime Minister’s comment, Chaudhary said that Prime Minister Modi himself is a playwright. As far as drama is concerned, no one can compete with Prime Minister Modi. Chaudhary’s comments come soon after Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation ahead of the winter session, in which he urged opposition parties to ensure a productive session in the public interest.

During his address, Prime Minister Modi took a dig at the opposition, saying that they appeared distraught after the recent defeat in Bihar elections. He appealed to the opposition to keep aside differences so that a situation of uproar like the monsoon session is not created. He said that I would request everyone to consider their issues. There is a lot of scope for drama, anyone who wants to drama can do it. There should be delivery, not drama here… but the emphasis here should be on policies, not slogans.

Prime Minister Modi also emphasized that negativity can have political value, but positive thinking is necessary for nation building. He urged the opposition to focus on strong and relevant issues in Parliament instead of slogans arising out of electoral frustration. He further said that he was hopeful that the opposition would recover from the Bihar election results, but felt that they were still unstable. “The opposition should also raise strong and relevant issues in Parliament… yesterday it seemed as if the defeat had clearly affected them,” he said.

Calling for cooperation from all political parties, the Prime Minister said the Winter Session should not become an arena of frustration after defeat or arrogance after victory. Instead, he said Parliament should focus on its goal to think, do and deliver results for the country. Earlier today, members of the Indian National Development Inclusive Alliance (India) met to discuss the opposition faction’s strategy ahead of the nearly three-week session of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.
