New rule of PSEB, FIR has to be filed to get duplicate certificate

Any person wishing to obtain a duplicate certificate from the Punjab School Education Board will have to file a police report. The Punjab School Education Board will not issue a duplicate certificate to the applicant without a police report. The board has clarified that if the certificate is torn, the applicant has to submit it to the board.

For the first time, the Punjab School Education Board has sought a police report for issuing duplicate certificates. PSEB has also issued clear instructions to school principals in this regard. In case of lost certificate the applicant has to submit an affidavit along with the police report.

The applicant will also have to mention in the affidavit that if they get their certificate in future, they will submit a copy to the PSEB office. Board officials argue that the purpose of filing a police report is to ensure that only those who need it apply for duplicate certificates.

Let us tell you that banks offer loans to youth in exchange for certificates. Some people submit their certificates to banks for loans and then get a duplicate copy from the board. The board is not aware that the certificates are deposited in the bank. In such cases the board often faces legal action. By taking the police report or damage certificate, the board will ensure that the applicant or the certificate has been lost or damaged, hence demanding a second copy.

Applications can be made online or offline
Applicants can apply for duplicate certificate from PSEB using both online and offline methods. For the offline mode applicants will have to visit the Punjab School Education Board head office in Mohali and apply at the single window, while for the online mode they can apply at their home.

PSEB has said that applicants who require the detailed mark sheet from pre-2002 will not get the subject-wise detail of marks. Only pass or fail will be written to those applicants.

PSEB issued only e-certificates to students from 2020 to 2024. Certificates were issued only to those students who had paid the fee for the hard copy. Now if the students at that time need a hard copy of their certificate, it is not clear how they will be able to get it. They will neither be able to file a police report of the loss nor will they have a damage certificate.
