Bollywood actor Shilpa Shetty has filed an application in the Bombay High Court, seeking protection of her personality rights, so that her Artificial Intelligence (AI) version, deepfake images, etc. are not illegally commercialized by many known and unknown platforms and they are earning profits.

Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty has filed a petition in the Bombay High Court primarily seeking a ban on unauthorized use of her name, photograph and other personality traits by various web portals. The petition, filed through advocate Sana Rais Khan, said Shetty’s “personality and publicity rights” including name, photograph, voice and signature have been misused for commercial gain without her permission.

The petition, which is likely to be heard soon, also names online portals involved in such violations. Lawyer Khan said, “The misuse of the actress’s image and identity has reached such a level that legal intervention has become mandatory.” The actress has requested the High Court to direct a ban on such use of her personality rights. Earlier, the Bombay and Delhi High Courts have granted similar relief to several film personalities.

Many celebrities are coming forward to save their identity. Shilpa Shetty is not the first to take this step. In recent times, many well-known personalities have approached the court to protect their identity rights. These include Aishwarya Rai, Abhishek Bachchan, Amitabh Bachchan, Karan Johar, Rishabh Shetty, Jaya Bachchan, Hrithik Roshan and Akkineni Nagarjuna.
