A 22-year-old mobile shop operator, resident of Hasanpur Kala village in Muzaffarnagar district, who set himself on fire accusing the police of harassing him, died at Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital on Wednesday evening.
According to the police, Anas, a resident of Hasanpur Kala village of Budhana police station, had allegedly tried to commit suicide on November 19. An alleged video had surfaced on social media in which he claimed that he was forced to take this step due to harassment by local policemen.
Following the complaint and the viral video, three police personnel were suspended five days ago. These include SI Ram Avtar, Head Constable Bhupendra, and Constable Vikas. This action was taken after initial investigation on the instructions of Senior Superintendent of Police Sanjay Kumar. Further investigation is ongoing in the matter.
