Villagers demonstrated to demand the removal of liquor shop from a densely populated area in village Lohgarh in Barnala district of Punjab. Village sarpanch Harjinder Kaur and Panch Beant Singh said that this liquor contract is in a place from where school children daily

Demand letter submitted to Deputy Commissioner Barnala
The villagers have submitted a demand letter to Deputy Commissioner Barnala regarding this issue. He had appealed to the government and the department before 31 March that the contract should not be opened again after the auction of new contracts, but despite this the liquor shop is running here. Panch Bant Singh, Jaspal Singh Pali, Gurvinder Singh Rinku, Manjit Singh Dhansar, Sukhjinder Singh Kala, Hardeep Singh Deepa, Mandeep Singh Mani and Gurjit Singh Gaggy attended the protest.
Assurance to shift elsewhere
SHO of Mahal Kalan police station, Jagjit Singh said that the contract will soon be shifted to another place to resolve the matter. District officer of Excise Department Navjot Singh also confirmed that the matter is under his notice. He said that after discussing with the panchayat, the contract will be transferred to another appropriate place.
