Renowned advertising professional and actor Bharat Dabholkar recalls his ‘Kurta connection’ with Bollywood icon Dharmendra. Recalling his association with Dharmendra, Dabholkar, who has also worked in Marathi theater and films, said through social media that he had never met him. “Years ago, renowned photography director Satish Bhatia sir gave me the lead role in his Marathi TV serial ‘Gharo Ghari’ opposite the talented Savita Prabhune,” Dabholkar, 56, wrote on Facebook.

Dabholkar said, “One night, he called me and said that tomorrow we are shooting a bedroom scene, so bring your ‘nightwear’ with you. I took along my white kurta and lungi, but was told that white kurta would not go on TV as it makes the picture blurry. Dabholkar told that Bhosale Dada, who had worked with Hrishikesh Mukherjee and was in-charge of the unit’s ‘costume’ department, said that in his box were some colorful kurtas worn by Dharmendra in Mukherjee’s films.

He said, “I was given Dharmendra’s kurta with great respect. It was too tight.” Dabholkar said, “When I told Bhonsle Dada, he looked at me with surprise and expressed surprise at my condemnable statement, saying, “It belongs to Dharam ji, anyone should have it.” Dabholkar wrote in the post, “Dharmendra ji, I wore your kurta, that’s why we are related to each other.
