There will be a strict ban on the use of loudspeakers, sound systems or DJs in any religious place, religious program or any public function in Amritsar from 10 pm to 6 am. Amritsar Police Commissionerate has issued a public notice in this regard. These orders were given as per the directions of the Hon’ble Supreme Court.
This decision has been taken so that the comfort of the people, the elderly, the sick and the children are not disturbed and they can sleep comfortably. The police said that strict action will be taken against those violating it.
The police administration said that during religious functions, festivals or private gatherings, loud sound systems are often played late into the night, causing considerable inconvenience to the population living in the surrounding areas. So as per Supreme Court guidelines, Amritsar Police has decided to strictly implement it.
The Amritsar Commissionerate has issued clear instructions under Section 163 BNS that unauthorized use of loudspeaker or sound system between 10 pm to 6 am is a punishable offence. The police have also made it clear that strict action will be taken against those violating the ban, including confiscation of the sound system and legal action.
The order will remain in force till February 16, 2026 and will be applicable in the entire Amritsar city and rural commissionerate area. Amritsar Police has appealed to the citizens to follow this rule and cooperate with the administration in maintaining a peaceful and orderly environment.

The police department has also said that this step has been taken keeping in mind the welfare, safety and health of the people. All religious organizations, management committees and general public should take this order seriously and refrain from making any noise after the fixed time.
