Reforms in UN Security Council are no longer an option but a necessity: Prime Minister Modi

Making a strong pitch for reforms in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said the trilateral forum of India, Brazil and South Africa (IBSA) should send a clear message that change in the global organization is no longer an option but an inevitability.

Addressing the IBSA leaders’ summit here, Modi said that at a time when the world seems divided and divided, IBSA can give the message of unity, cooperation and humanity. Addressing South African President Cyril Ramaphosa and Brazilian President Lula da Silva, Modi proposed to institutionalize the IBSA NSA level meeting to strengthen security cooperation between the three countries.

Modi said, “We have to move forward with close coordination in the fight against terrorism.” There is no room for double standards on such a serious issue.” Highlighting the critical role of technology in ensuring human-centric development, the Prime Minister also proposed the establishment of ‘IBSA Digital Innovation Alliance’ to facilitate sharing of digital public infrastructure like UPI, health platforms like CoWIN, cyber security frameworks and women-led technology initiatives among the three countries.The IBSA grouping focuses on promoting South-South cooperation, pursuing reforms in global governance systems and enhancing cooperation among developing countries.
