Two BLOs, who were negligent in the duty of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) campaign of the voter list being conducted by the Election Commission in Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh, have been suspended on the instructions of District Magistrate Akshay Tripathi.
District Basic Education Officer Ashish Kumar Singh said on Saturday that the process of SIR campaign is going on on the orders of the Election Commission. For this, instructions have been given to officers and employees not to commit any kind of negligence. Singh said that Shama Nafees, headmistress of primary school Badhainbagh under Matera assembly constituency, was deployed on BLO duty at the polling place set up in the same school.
Instructions and efforts were made by the officials to get them to join duty in writing, on telephone and by reaching the school on 17th November through BEO. But due to arbitrariness and stubbornness, Mrs. Nafees did not take up the duty and an application for medical leave was sent.
Similarly, when BLO-Assistant Teacher Anurag, posted at Nausar Gumtiha Vidyalaya polling station in Balha assembly constituency, did not do the work of SIR, when the officials contacted him, he clearly refused to do the work of SIR.
Basic Education Officer said that the election work was affected due to the above incidents and the Election Commission has expressed strong displeasure over this situation. On the instructions of District Magistrate Akshay Tripathi, action has been taken to suspend both the BLOs with immediate effect due to negligence by BLOs in very important work like elections and disobeying the orders of higher officials.
