Police have arrested two persons for snatching a handbag from an NRI (non-resident Indian) senior citizen in East Delhi’s Pandav Nagar area. Police gave this information on Monday.
According to the police, the accused have been identified as Rohit, 26, and Mukul, 24, and they had targeted the woman who had come from Britain on October 28. While she was walking, the duo came on a motorcycle, snatched her handbag and drove away, a senior police officer said.
The motorcycle used in the crime, gold jewellery, 135 pounds (UK currency), the victim’s mobile phone, purse, passport and other documents were recovered from their possession, the officer said. After registering the case, investigation was started.
The officer said that the footage of more than 150 CCTV cameras installed on the 15 kilometer route was scrutinized and then on the information of the informer, both were caught.
He said that during interrogation, the accused confessed to the crime and said that they were facing financial crisis and they targeted the woman because they knew that she was an NRI and possibly had valuables.
