Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s son has suggested that Congress leader Satish Jarkiholi could be a possible successor to carry forward the legacy of his father, who he said is in the last phase of his political career. Yathindra’s comments come in the backdrop of speculations about leadership change in Karnataka, which the Congress party had earlier denied. While talks are on over a possible leadership change, Siddaramaiah’s son Yathindra made a surprise announcement that his father is in the final stages of his political career and a leader like Satish Jarkiholi would be the most suitable candidate to carry forward his legacy.

Yatindra said that it is difficult to find a person associated with a particular ideology and suggested that Jarkiholi could play the role of a progressive leader. It is noteworthy that Jarkiholi had earlier said that he was not in the race for the post of Chief Minister. Responding to Yathindra’s comment, Shivakumar did not comment and said, “You should ask him, what can I say?” He also said that the final decision on this matter will be taken by the Congress high command.
Congress, on the other hand, is all set for a major reshuffle in Karnataka, and according to sources, the ‘oldest party’ will implement the Kamaraj plan, which means many senior faces will be dropped from the state cabinet on the basis of protests and corruption allegations. The Congress is likely to remove a dozen senior cabinet ministers and transfer them to the party organization in the reshuffle expected by the end of this year, and new faces will be given a place in the cabinet.

As the Karnataka government completes two-and-a-half years, chances of a cabinet reshuffle have increased, with Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar demanding the chief minister’s post by rotation in the state. However, if the Kamaraj scheme is implemented in the state, he will have to step down from one of his posts in the state, as he is the state party president as well as a cabinet minister and deputy chief minister. Kamaraj Yojana was launched in 1963 by the then Chief Minister of Madras, K. It was an initiative started by Kamaraj, who later became President of the Congress (O) in 1963. Kumaraswamy Kamaraj had proposed that senior Congress leaders should resign from government posts to focus on rebuilding the party. Its aim was to strengthen the party’s organization at the grassroots level.
