Brahmaputra Valley Film Festival | Salute to Zubin Garg’s ‘Adhuri Bhavana’, Brahmaputra Valley Film Festival postponed till 2026

The Brahmaputra Valley Film Festival (BVFF), earlier scheduled for December 4-7, 2025, has now been postponed to 2026. The decision has been taken in mourning the demise of Assam’s iconic singer and cultural personality Zubeen Garg, who passed away in September. The organizers announced the postponement underlining the importance of Garg’s contribution to Assamese art and culture. The festival, a central event of the region’s creative calendar, will process refunds for all productions.

The 10th edition of the Brahmaputra Valley Film Festival (BVFF) has been postponed as Assam mourns the demise of singer Zubin Garg. The organizers gave this information on Thursday. This festival was scheduled to be held between December 4 to 7, now it will be organized in 2026. Festival director Tanushree Hazarika said that Garg’s demise is not just a loss for Assam but a loss for every person who found his rhythm and identity through his art.

He said, Zubin Garg was a musician, filmmaker and humanitarian whose voice and vision defined generations. He was not just an artist, he was a spirit who united the people of the Northeast and beyond. He said, it does not seem appropriate to celebrate a festival related to this land and its people when the heart of our culture is immersed in mourning.

This year, we pause to remember, reflect and honor them. Hazarika said the decision was taken after careful deliberation and discussion with the festival’s internal stakeholders, advisors and core team, all of whom share the grief of losing Zubin.

Pallavi Chumki Barua, Creative Director of the festival, said, “We are extremely grateful to our filmmakers, partners and audiences for their understanding and continued support of BVFF, which celebrates creativity, community and the stories that bring us together. Samujjal Kashyap, technical director of the festival, said that the 10th edition of BVFF will prove to be a milestone, but now it is a time for reflection.
