Punjab Police Ropar Range DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar and the middlemen will be produced in the CBI Court in Chandigarh today. Here CBI will seek remand of both. CBI arrested DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar on Thursday afternoon in a bribery case.
CBI conducted his medical this morning. After his arrest, his first picture came out. When the CBI took him to Chandigarh’s Sector-16 Hospital for medical examination, he was wearing pants and a shirt and had a watch in his hand. He was covering his face with a handkerchief. He was sitting on the back seat in the vehicle and did not interact with the media.
The DIG had demanded a bribe of Rs 8 lakh from a scrap dealer of Mandi Gobindgarh in Fatehgarh Sahib through an intermediary. If he did not pay the bribe, he was threatened to present the charge sheet in the old case registered in Sirhind 2 years ago and register a new fake case. The businessman complained about it to the CBI. After investigation, CBI laid a trap and arrested the DIG.
After this, a team of about 52 people from CBI from Delhi and Chandigarh searched his Mohali office and his house in Sector-40 of Chandigarh. 7 crore cash was found from his house which was filled with 3 bags and 2 briefcases. To count it, the CBI team had to order 3 note counting machines.
Apart from this, a huge amount of jewellery, luxury watches, foreign liquor and revolvers were also found. CBI has also found documents of 15 properties and luxury vehicles of DGI. BMW, Mercedes car and bank locker key have also been recovered from the house. CBI teams continued to investigate till late night in DIG Chandigarh Kothi.
The CBI said that middlemen were also arrested along with the DGI. The middleman was caught red-handed in Sector-21 of Chandigarh while taking 8 lakh rupees. After this, a call was made to the DIG, in which the DIG admitted to asking for a bribe and called the middleman and the businessman to his office, from where the DIG was arrested.
