Dhami government’s initiative: 32 devotees left for Gangotri under Matri-Pitru Pilgrimage Scheme

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Tuesday flagged off a group of 32 devotees for Gangotri Dham under the Mother-Father Pilgrimage Scheme of the state government. During the program organized at Haldwani Circuit House, Chief Minister Dhami wished all the devotees a safe, pleasant and auspicious journey. The Chief Minister of Uttarakhand said that the objective of Matri-Pitru Tirthatan Yojana run by the State Government for senior citizens is to provide an opportunity to the devotees to visit holy pilgrimage sites and bring spiritual peace and joy in their lives.

Meanwhile, the group of devotees who set out on the five-day pilgrimage includes 19 women and 13 men. Under the Matri-Pitra scheme, devotees will visit Gangotri Dham as well as other holy places en route. Arrangements for accommodation, food and other facilities were made at the tourist guesthouse of Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam. Earlier, the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand participated in the nine-day Cooperative Fair in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir and highlighted the role of cooperatives in rural development, women empowerment and self-reliance.
According to the release, while addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Dhami said that the cooperative movement in the state acts as a driving force of rural development and women empowerment and also lays the foundation of social unity and partial self-reliance. Co-operation is a medium to unite the society and pursue self-reliance. On Monday, Chief Minister Dhami visited the stalls of local products set up by various departments, groups and institutions. He appreciated the farmers and self-help groups for their efforts in promoting local products and linking them to the market.

He said that this fair will further strengthen the spirit of co-operation and provide a broad platform to women and self-help groups to showcase their products. Co-operation is a symbol of the culture and lifestyle of India, which is reflected in the philosophy of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam”.
