The Indian Army said that two terrorists were killed in Kupwara, Jammu and Kashmir on Monday evening. According to the official statement, Indian Army soldiers opened fire after noticing suspicious activity. After the incident, the Indian Army said that the search operation is going on in Jammu and Kashmir. A statement issued by Indian Army officials said that based on specific intelligence provided by Jammu and Kashmir Police and confirmed by sources and agencies about a possible infiltration attempt, the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police launched a joint operation in Machhal sector of Kupwara on 13 October 2025.

Alert troops noticed suspicious activity and challenged them, as a result of which the terrorists started firing indiscriminately. The troops retaliated effectively and killed two terrorists. Officials said that a large quantity of weapons and equipment have been recovered. With the onset of winter, Union Home Minister Amit Shah called on security forces to remain on high alert and ensure that terrorists do not take advantage of snowfall and adverse weather conditions to infiltrate across the Line of Control (LoC) and the International Border.

The BJP leader’s directive came during a high-level security review meeting chaired by Shah in Delhi to assess the ground situation in the Union Territory. The meeting was also attended by Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Manoj Sinha, Union Home Secretary, Director of Intelligence Bureau, Chief of Army Staff, Chief Secretary and Director General of Police of Jammu and Kashmir, Director General of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) and other senior officials of the Government of India, Army and Jammu and Kashmir Administration.
