US President Donald Trump on Sunday warned Russia that the US could give Ukraine long-range Tomahawk missiles if it does not end its long-running war with Ukraine. Donald Trump’s open threat to Putin, warns Russia if

Trump told reporters, “I would tell them that if the war doesn’t end, we can do this.” However, Trump said, “It is possible that we may not do this and it is also possible that we may do this.” I think this should be kept.”

This comment of Trump came after a phone conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Sunday. Trump said he had mentioned the possibility of sending Tomahawk missiles in that conversation. He said, “Tomahawks are a very aggressive move.” Trump made these statements at a time when Russia attacked Ukraine’s power plants overnight and this is part of its campaign to shut down Ukraine’s energy infrastructure before winter.

Russia reacted

Russia has expressed “extreme concern” over the possibility of the US supplying Tomahawk cruise missiles to Ukraine. Putin has previously said that the US providing long-range missiles to Ukraine would seriously damage relations between Moscow and Washington. Regarding the war, Trump said, “I really think it would be good for Putin if he could resolve this issue, and if he didn’t, it would be bad for him.”

Putin himself has already hinted that the US supply of long-range missiles to Ukraine would seriously damage relations between Moscow and Washington. Earlier on Friday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said he was in talks with US officials on the possible transfer of various long-range precision strike weapons, including Tomahawk and ATACMS tactical ballistic missiles. Zelensky noted that Russian attacks have steadily increased and such missiles are critical to Ukraine’s defense.

During an interview with Fox News Channel’s “The Sunday Briefing” following his conversation with Trump, Zelensky was asked whether Trump approved the Tomahawk missiles. “We are working on it,” he said. “I’m waiting for the president to say yes,” Zelensky said.

Tomahawk missiles are considered one of the most powerful weapons in modern warfare. The Tomahawk cruise missile can be fired from ships, submarines and land launchers. It can reach targets located in tightly defended airspace from up to 1,000 miles away. The approximately 2,500 km range of the Tomahawk cruise missiles will enable the Ukrainian military to target military bases, logistics centres, airfields and command centers inside Russia, which till now were beyond their reach.
