Congress President Rahul Gandhi’s remarks at the University of Chile on India’s education system and ‘independent thinking’ have once again angered the BJP. BJP has launched a scathing attack on him, accusing him of defaming India on foreign soil.
Rahul Gandhi’s comment
During an interaction with students at the University of Chile, when asked about reforms in the Indian education system, Rahul Gandhi expressed concern over the alleged attack on ‘free thinking’ in the country.
He said, ‘I would like to preserve the curiosity that Amrita has in the Indian education system. And I will ensure that he can ask questions, raise issues, think openly without any restrictions. So that would be the main idea. And by the way, it is under attack in India. The idea of independent thinking, the idea of openness, the idea of being scientific, the idea of being logical, these are under tremendous attack in India at the moment.

BJP’s counterattack
Reacting sharply to Rahul Gandhi’s remarks, BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawala called him a ‘leader of propaganda and hypocrisy’ and alleged that criticizing India’s constitutional institutions on foreign soil has become his habit.
BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawala said, ‘Rahul Gandhi is not the leader of the opposition. He is a leader of propaganda and hypocrisy. It has become their habit to go abroad and speak against India’s constitutional institutions, India’s democratic system, India’s judiciary and India’s sovereignty.

Attacking Gandhi, Poonawalla also referred to the situation within his party and said, ‘Rahul Gandhi says he is fighting against the Government of India. From opposing Prime Minister Narendra Modi, they are now engaged in spreading lies against India. They say there is no room for independent thinking. This happens in your party. If someone speaks against Rahul Gandhi, what happens? Look at Shashi Tharoor. He was defamed because he worked in the interest of the country and its armed forces.
