Firing in school in Mississippi, America, 4 people died

Four people were killed and at least 12 others were injured in a shooting early Saturday morning in Leland, Mississippi. Leland Mayor John Lee told CBS News the shooting happened around midnight and four injured people were airlifted to local hospitals. No information was immediately available about his condition. No suspects have been detained and the investigation is ongoing. Lee said the shooting took place on a main road. He said the people were in town for Leland High School’s homecoming game. The Leland School District website shows that Leland High School was scheduled to play a homecoming game against Charleston High School.

Leland is a small city in Washington County. According to 2020 census data, it has a population of approximately 4,000. Leland was busier than usual, as the local high school was scheduled to play a football game in celebration of homecoming, an annual American tradition, usually in the fall, when alumni are welcomed back to celebrate school spirit and community.
